Michael Platt is a small independent retailer situated in Wimbledon Village, London, SW19. Established in 1990 the shop has been trading successfully for more than fifteen years. It really is an Aladdin’s Cave of glittering wonders; the size belies great capabilities and craftsmanship. Specialists in Bespoke Jewellery ; creating beautifully hand-crafted unique pieces of jewellery, tailored to customers’ individual requirements and budgets. Work is mostly undertaken in platinum and 18ct gold, yellow or white – but pieces in 9ct gold can be created.

Wayne Myers, previously behind the scenes at Michael Platt, designing and making exquisite pieces of jewellery, now splits his week between the shop and workshop. Wayne has over thirty years of jewellery ‘manufacturing’ experience and previously employed more than thirty people in his workshop. After leaving school, he attended Sir John Cass College both full and part time where he learnt a diversity of skills; design, enamelling, gold and silversmith, engraving and diamond mounting and won The Goldsmiths Company Award for outstanding work. He undertook a full five year working apprenticeship, specialising in master pattern making (i.e. the prototype) for production. He is currently a Fellow of The Institute of Professional Goldsmiths* and a member of The National Association of Goldsmiths** .

Customers are able to benefit from Wayne’s vast pool of professional experience when taking up the opportunity to create their very own ‘piece’ of jewellery – either from new, or by remodelling old or inherited jewellery. A complimentary in-depth design consultation is offered where the customer can be completely involved in the creation, step by step, of their own exclusive piece of jewellery. Wayne is also able to offer restoration work on complex pieces that often others will not undertake.

The shop is a ‘small’ environment and pride is taken in being able to keep all overheads low – fairly unique, with their own workshop, dealing direct with diamond and stone suppliers, customers are offered excellent value for money.

There is a Code of Practice to which elected Members must agree to adhere to and by which applicants for membership are judged. Membership comprises professional retail jewellers, both independents and multiples, who are committed to an honest and knowledgeable approach to their business. Prospective members pass through a vetting stage prior to election.
